- Stockport Etchells was a township in Stockport Parish, Macclesfield Hundred (SJ 8488), which became a civil parish in 1866.
- In 1930 the whole of Stockport Etchells was added to Cheadle & Gatley civil parish.
- Included the hamlets of Gatley, Heald Green and Pimgate.
- The population was 623 in 1801, 805 in 1851, and 1776 in 1901.
CHURCHES AND CHAPELS
- Stockport, St. Mary (C of E). The ancient parish church for Stockport Etchells.
- Stockport, St. Thomas (C of E). The parish church for part of Stockport Etchells since 1827.
- Cheadle Hulme, All Saints (C of E). The parish church for part of Stockport Etchells from 1868.
- Gatley, St. James the Apostle (C of E). Built in 1882, becoming the parish church for Stockport Etchells in 1882. Registers of marriages 1882–1932 have been deposited at the Cheshire Record Office, where Bishop's Transcripts 1881–1899 are held. Registers of Baptisms from 1876 are held at the church.
- Heald Green, St. Catherine (C of E). Outwood Road. Built in 1933 as a chapel to Gatley, becoming a parish church in 1958. Registers of Baptisms and Marriages from 1952 are held at the church (no burials).
- Gatley, United Reformed Church (Independent/Congregational). Founded 1778, closed in 1967. Registers of baptisms 1779–1944 and burials 1823–1950 are at Manchester Central Library.
