- Sproston was a township in Middlewich Parish, Northwich Hundred (SJ 7366), which became a civil parish in 1866.
- In 1892 the whole of Mooresbarrow with Parme was added to Sproston.
- In 1936 Sproston was extended to include the hamlet of Hulme from Kinderton civil parish.
- Including the hamlet of Walker's Green.
- The population was 150 in 1801, 67 in 1851, 167 in 1901, and 216 in 1951.
