Pensby (Woodchurch)

  • Pensby was a township in Woodchurch Parish, Wirral Hundred (SJ 2683), which became a civil parish in 1866.
  • Since 1974 it has been part of the county of Merseyside.
  • Including the hamlets of Arno Hill and Lingdale.
  • The population was 22 in 1801, 41 in 1851, 48 in 1901, and 2996 in 1951.

  • Woodchurch, Holy Cross (C of E). The ancient parish church for Pensby.
  • Barnston, Christ Church (C of E). The parish church since 1880.
  • Pensby, St. Michael and All Angels (C of E). Founded 1958 as a chapel to Barnston. Registers of Baptisms from 1958 and Marriages from 1964 are held at the church.
