- Norley was a township in Frodsham Parish, Eddisbury Hundred (SJ 5572), which became a civil parish in 1866.
- In 1936 it was extended in 1936 to include parts of Kingsley and Kingswood.
- Including the hamlets of Blakemere, Breech Moss, Flaxmere, Gadbank, Hambletts Hollow, Houndslough, Maddocks Hill and Pytchley Hollow.
- The population was 376 in 1801, 698 in 1851, 656 in 1901, and 852 in 1951.

- Norley, St. John the Evangelist (C of E). Founded 1833 as a chapel to Frodsham, becoming the parish church for Norley in 1861. Registers of Baptisms 1833–1923, Marriages 1838–1979 and Burials 1834–1962 have been deposited at the Cheshire Record Office
- Norley, Our Lady of the Assumption (Roman Catholic), Wickentree Farm, Blakemere Lane. Founded 1945, closed in 1982. Registers of marriages 1981–82 are at the Cheshire Record Office.
- Norley, Central Methodist Chapel (Wesleyan). Founded 1779, rebuilt in 1882. Registers 1871–1891 are at the Cheshire Record Office.
- Norley, Bethel Methodist Chapel (Free). Built in 1836. Registers 1909–1968 are at the Cheshire Record Office.
