Leftwich (Davenham)

  • Leftwich was a township in Davenham Parish, Northwich Hundred (SJ 6672), which became a civil parish in 1866.
  • In 1894 the part in Northwich Urban District was added to Northwich.
  • In 1936 the remainder of Leftwich was added to Davenham (although most of this area was transferred to Northwich in 1955).
  • The population was 899 in 1801, 2528 in 1851, and 3448 in 1901.

  • Davenham, St Wilfrid (C of E). The ancient parish church for Leftwich.
  • Dane Bridge, St. Paul (C of E), London Road. A separate parish from 1846 serving parts of Leftwich and Northwich townships. Closed in 1930. Registers of Baptisms 1846–1967, Marriages 1849–1963 and Burials 1849–1956 have been deposited at the Cheshire Record Office.
  • Leftwich, Church of the Good Shepherd (C of E). Founded 1953 as a chapel to Davenham. Registers of Baptisms 1953–70 have been deposited at the Cheshire Record Office
  • Non-conformist churches and chapels are listed under Northwich.
