- Helsby was a township in Frodsham Parish, Eddisbury Hundred (SJ 4975), which became a civil parish in 1866.
- Including the hamlets of Irondish (part) and Teuthill (part).
- The population was 268 in 1801, 692 in 1851, 1572 in 1901, and 2739 in 1951.

- Frodsham, St. Lawrence (C of E). The ancient parish church for Frodsham.
- Helsby, St. Paul (C of E). Built in 1870 as a chapel to Frodsham, becoming the parish church for Helsby in 1875. Registers of Baptisms 1870–1926, Marriages 1876–1954 and Burials 1871–1924 have been deposited at the Cheshire Record Office.
- Helsby, St. Mary Magdalene (Roman Catholic), Upper Rake Lane. Built in 1961.
- Helsby, Methodist (Trinity) Chapel (Wesleyan). Built in 1853, closed in 1960. Registers of marriages 1931–58 are at the Cheshire Record Office.
- Helsby, Methodist (Zion/Central) Chapel (Wesleyan). Built in 1858.
- Helsby, Methodist Chapel (Primitive), The Avenue. Built in 1902, closed in 1965.
