- Hartford was a township in Eddisbury Hundred (SJ 6371), mainly in Witton chapelry of Great Budworth parish (except for a small part was in Weaverham parish), which became a civil parish in 1866.
- In 1894 the part of Hartford in Northwich Urban District was added to Northwich.
- In 1955 the district of Greenbank was added to Northwich
- Including the hamlet of Hartfordbeach.
- The population was 472 in 1801, 950 in 1851, 850 in 1901, and 2919 in 1951.
CHURCHES AND CHAPELS
- Great Budworth, St. Mary & All Saints (C of E). The ancient parish church for most of Hartford.
- Witton, St. Helen (C of E). An ancient chapelry in Great Budworth parish.
- Weaverham, St. Mary (C of E). The ancient parish church for a small part of Hartford.
- Hartford, St. John the Baptist (C of E). Founded 1824 as a chapel to Witton; rebuilt in 1875. A separate parish from 1863 serving the township of Hartford and part of Winnington. Registers of Baptisms 1845–1996, Marriages 1837–1943 and Burials 1826–1896 have been deposited at the Cheshire Record Office.
- Hartford, Methodist Chapel (Wesleyan), Beach Road. Built in 1833, the present building dates from 1891.
