Great Sutton (Eastham)

  • Great Sutton was a township in Eastham Parish, Wirral Hundred (SJ 3775), which became a civil parish in 1866.
  • In 1950 the whole of Great Sutton was added to Ellesmere Port civil parish.
  • Including the hamlets of Backford Cross (part) and Sutton Green.
  • The population was 153 in 1801, 203 in 1851, and 397 in 1901.

  • Eastham, St. Mary (C of E). The ancient parish church for Great Sutton.
  • Great Sutton, St. John the Evangelist (C of E). The parish church since 1880. Registers of Baptisms 1879–1977 and Marriages 1880–1989 have been deposited at the Cheshire Record Office. Registers of Burials start in 1908 and are held at the church.
