- Great Meols was a township in West Kirby Parish, Wirral Hundred (SJ 2390), which became a civil parish in 1866.
- In 1894 the whole of Great Meols was added to Hoylake cum West Kirby civil parish.
- Including the hamlets of Farnalls Green and Sandhey.
- The population was 140 in 1801, 170 in 1851, and 821 in 1901.

- West Kirby, St. Bridget (C of E). The ancient parish church for Great Meols.
- Hoylake, Holy Trinity. The parish church for Great Meols from 1860 to 1937.
- Great Meols, St. John the Baptist (C of E). Birch Road. Founded as a chapel to Hoylake Holy Trinity, becoming the parish church for parts of Hoylake cum West Kirby and Moreton in 1937. Registers of Baptisms from 1907 and Marriages from 1914 are held at the church.
- Great Meols, Presbyterian Church, Alderley Road. Built in 1905.
