Dukinfield (Stockport)

  • Dukinfield was a township in Stockport Parish, Macclesfield Hundred (SJ 9597), which became a civil parish in 1866.
  • In 1894 the Castle Hall area was transferred to Stalybridge.
  • In 1898 there were boundary changes with Ashton under Lyne [Lancashire].
  • In 1936 part of Matley civil parish was added to Dukinfield.
  • Since 1974 Dukinfield has been part of the county of Greater Manchester.
  • Including the hamlets of Castle Hall (until 1898), Hough Hill, Hydes (until 1898), Newton Moor and Yew Tree.
  • The population was 1737 in 1801, 26418 in 1851, 18929 in 1901, and 18451 in 1951.

  • Dukinfield, St. Mark (C of E), Railway Street. A separate parish from 1846. Registers of Baptisms 1846–1989 and Marriages 1849–1975 have been deposited at the Cheshire Record Office (no burials here)
  • Stalybridge (Castle Hall), Holy Trinity (C of E).
  • Dukinfield, St. Luke (C of E), King Street. Built in 1889 as a chapel to St John the Evangelist, becoming a separate parish in 1906. Registers of Baptisms 1875–1989 and Marriages 1906–1988 have been deposited at the Cheshire Record Office (no burials here)
  • Stalybridge (Dukinfield), Christ Church (C of E).
  • Dukinfield, St. Mary (Roman Catholic), Zetland Street. Built in 1825, rebuilt in 1844.
  • Dukinfield, Baptist Union Chapel, Oxford Road. Built in 1904.
