Church Hulme (Sandbach)

  • Church Hulme was a township and chapelry in Sandbach Parish, Northwich Hundred (SJ 7667), which became a civil parish in 1866.
  • In 1974 it was renamed Holmes Chapel.
  • Includes the village of Holmes Chapel and part of the hamlet of Saltersford.
  • The population was 314 in 1801, 555 in 1851, 866 in 1901, and 1460 in 1901.

  • Sandbach, St. Mary (C of E). The ancient parish church for Church Hulme.
  • Church Hulme, St. Luke (C of E). A chapelry in Sandbach parish, originally serving the townships of Church Hulme, Cotton and Cranage. Registers of Baptisms 1613–1994, Marriages 1613–2001 and Burials 1613–1961 have been deposited at the Cheshire Record Office, where Bishop's Transcriptssurvive from 1576.
  • Church Hulme, Methodist Chapel (Wesleyan). Built in 1813, rebuilt in 1900. Registers of baptisms 1844–1973 are at the Cheshire Record Office.
  • Church Hulme, Methodist Chapel (Free). Built in 1851. With burial ground.
