Church Coppenhall (Coppenhall)

  • Church Coppenhall was a township in Coppenhall Parish, Nantwich Hundred (SJ 7057), which became a civil parish in 1866.
  • In 1894 the part within Crewe Municipal Borough was added to Monks Coppenhall civil parish.
  • In 1936 the remainder of Church Coppenhall was added to Monks Coppenhall and the borough of Crewe.
  • Including the hamlets of Maw Green, Merrills Bridge and Sydney
  • The population was 241 in 1801 and 495 in 1851.

  • Coppenhall, St. Michael (C of E). An ancient parish, originally serving the townships of Church Coppenhall and Monks Coppenhall. Registers of Baptisms 1653–1935, Marriages 1653–1934 and Burials 1653–1857 have been deposited at the Cheshire Record Office, where Bishop's Transcripts survive from 1579.
  • Crewe, St. Paul (C of E). The parish church for part of Church Coppenhall from 1869.
